Place a hold on library material...
Patrons are now able to place holds from home by going to the Library Catalog.
- There are several paths you can take to do this, but most patrons begin with searching and selecting an item first. After a title is found, it is important to note whether the item is available or checked out. (If the item is available, select "Callslip" from the hold/recall page...if the item is checked out, select the "Hold" function.)
- Select the title (the link) and go to the "SHORT VIEW" page. From here, select the "HOLD/RECALL" tab at the top of the page.
- The next screen asks for your barcode and your last name. Your barcode can be found on your library card or your student card...it should be nine digits. Enter these two facts and login.
- The next page asks you to choose a type of request. If the item is available, select the arrow on the drop-down (which currently says "Hold") and select "Callslip". If the item is checked out, select "Hold" and "OK."
- The next page displays the items you have on hold and will ask you to select a library for your hold retrieval. This function is currently set (defaulted) at "Salish Kootenai College". Make sure it is set at this selection. Enter your barcode again and select "Submit Request."
- The final page should confirm to you, in purple letters that "your patron initiated request was successful." If your request was not successful, a purple message will tell you that as well.
- There are several possible reasons why your request may not be successful, and the message does not specify why. To see what is happening, access your account by selecting "MY ACCOUNT," which is right next to the "HOLD/RECALL" tab at the top of the catalog page. The 'MY ACCOUNT" function shows you the items you currently have checked out and their due date, whether you have fines or not, and gives you the option of canceling any holds or recalls you may no longer want. If you have any items overdue, you will be unable to place a hold.
- Be sure to log out if you are using a public computer so that other patrons can't access your account.
